For over a century, Locharbriggs sandstone has been renowned as one
of the finest red sandstones
available. Combining complete adaptability with a quality and consistency
known throughout the
industry, Locharbriggs has rightly earned its place as one of the premier
stones of the British Isles.
The distinctive medium-grained texture, combining with the subtle
bedding planes, have made Locharbriggs
sandstone a popular choice for a range of contemporary projects such
as the new Manchester International
Convention Centre. All have looked to the warmth of the reds and
pinks of this distinctive stone to add to the
aesthetic appeal of their buildings.
Specification guide
Locharbriggs Sandstone is a Permian Sandstone. The stone is extracted
from the Locharbriggs Quarry on
the outskirts of Dumfries in Scotland. It is medium grained in texture,
free of clay holes and other
impurities and is characterised by its red or pink colouring. The
quarry has been operating since 1890,
contributing over a century of production of this durable stone.
The red sandstone from this quarry is
considered to be some of the finest found and has been used to build
several famous landmarks, including
the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
